Arizona Coyotes may have illegally terminated Alex Galchenyuk's contract after recent arrest
After news of his recent arrest the Arizona Coyotes immediately started the process to terminate his contract. The Coyotes placed him on unconditional waivers and once he cleared they terminated his deal.
There is now some belief that the National Hockey League Players Association could file a grievance on behalf of the twenty-nine-year-old.
Galchenyuk was arrested after a July 9th incident which included a hit and run. During the arrest Galchenyuk reportedly threatened officers during the arrest. Today Galchenyuk announced he'd entered the NHL Players Assistance Program.
News: NHLPA executive director Marty Walsh tells me that the players association is still contemplating whether they'll file a grievance on behalf ofAlex Galchenyuk regarding his contract termination from the @ArizonaCoyotes.
This will be an interesting process as he's clear that Galchenyuk is dealing with some sort of substance issue. If the NHLPA chooses to file a grievance it will certainly challenge the legality of this situation and could set up a strong precedent.
