National Hockey League players and owners are no stranger to purchasing stakes in professional football clubs in Europe.

Last year, Victor Hedman and Ondrej Palat purchased a 20% stake in English football club Plymouth Argyle F.C. Meanwhile Golden Knights owner Bill Foley purchased English Premier League club A.F.C. Bournemouth for 150 million pounds, which converts to nearly $200 million USD.
On Monday, Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog and Buffalo Sabres defenceman Erik Johnson were apart of an investor group that purchased Leeds United, who played in the second division in England, the EFL Championship.
Leeds United F.C. were founded in 1919 and were most recently in the English Premier League last season. They headed into the final day of the 2022-23 season with an opportunity to stay up in England's highest division of professional football, but fell 2-0 to Manchester United and were relegated to the Championship. They'll be in tough this coming season as they try to gain promotion back to the Premier League, but have the second-highest odds at 9/4 to return for the 2024-25 season, only behind Leicester City.
