Canucks Take Garland Off Trade Block As They Found Someone Else To Take His Spot
As the 2022-23 season kicked off, the Vancouver Canucks faced a trade request from Conor Garland, initially granted permission for his agent to explore potential deals. However, recent reports suggest a shift in this situation.
According to Grady Sas, it appears Conor Garland is now off the trade block, and Anthony Beauvillieris in as his potential replacement. Sas mentions,
"Sounds like the #Canucks are looking to move Anthony Beauvillier instead of Conor Garland now. [Coach Rick] Tocchet likes Garland's game. With [Teddy] Blueger nearing a return and [Nils] Höglander playing solid, there's a logjam up front."
Despite Garland's game not being on fire, the decision to keep him may be influenced by the challenge of moving him without eating a substantial cap hit. With a $4.95 million cap hit this season and two more to follow, the Canucks might have limited options but to retain salary for any potential trade.
On the other hand, Beauvillier's $4.15 million cap hit, expiring at the end of this season, seems a more attractive option for potential trade partners.
