Tonight Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic has caused major drama as he stormed off the ice after being pulled due to poor performance.
Tonight the Pittsburgh Penguins are taking on their rival the Philadelphia Flyers and things have gotten off to a terrible start.
Midway through the second period, the Flyers would take a 3-0 lead on goals from
Matvei Michkov and
Owen Tippett dominating the Penguins in every facet of the game.
This major deficit and lack of momentum for the Penguins would cause head coach Mike Sullivan to make a major change pulling starting goalie Alex Nedeljkovic.
After being pulled on his way to the locker room Nedeljkovic was furious and shattered his stick.
He then can be seen slamming the door to the bench and shouting down at likely either his teammates or coaches.
This is a clear sign of major frustration from Nedljkovic who has had an up-and-down season but played fairly well considering the circumstances he was placed in this season.
One has to wonder if this is just a single moment of frustration from Nedeljkovic or if it is a sign of larger problem overall between himself and the organization.
Luckily the position that the Penguins have the most depth in overall in the organization is goaltender.
Whether you look at current backup and top prospect
Joel Blomqvist who has come up and played well or former starter
Tristan Jarry who can come back up if needed after finding his game in the AHL.
The Penguins even have more strength for the future with first-year pro Sergei Murahsov who is having an incredible year across the AHL and ECHL.
Regardless the Penguins have plenty of options to go to if they need to either send a message to Nedeljkovic or move on completely depending on the fall out from this incident.
After the game ends all eyes will be on Nedeljkovic's post-game press conference to see what he has to say about the tantrum he threw on the ice and who the yelling down the bench was directed at.
