Toronto Maple Leafs Forward Officially Speaks Out After Being Scratched
The Toronto Maple Leafs had an interesting weekend, and surprisingly, it wasn't just about their performance on the ice. Despite losing to the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Carolina Hurricanes, the real buzz came from head coach Sheldon Keefe's decision to bench veteran forward David Kampf.
Kampf had an impressive streak of over 300 consecutive games, a fact even highlighted by his wife on social media after Keefe's move. Known as the team's go-to defensive forward, Kampf's benching stirred up controversy, especially considering goalie Ilya Samsonov took some heat for the recent loss.
Former NHL player Kevin Bieksa openly criticized Keefe for scratching Kampf, adding more fuel to the drama. Yet, when asked about the decision on Monday, Kampf, though admitting he was "surprised," took the high road, staying professional.
"Just have to keep working hard and be better," Kampf commented matter-of-factly.
While it's hard to believe Kampf has no hard feelings about Keefe's call, he's handling it like a true pro, not throwing his coach under the bus.
