Illya Samsonov's placement on waivers has led the Toronto Maple Leafs to turn to 3rd-string goalie Martin Jones and a call-up, Dennis Hildeby.

Despite efforts from GM Brad Treliving to make deals, the offers he put forward didn't gain much traction across the league.

NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman sheds light on Treliving's attempts.

«Elliotte Friedman speculates that Toronto Maple Leafs' GM Brad Treliving offered several teams a sixth-round draft pick for a goalie, to which every team declined. He reportedly hoped a team would be desperate to move one.»

Luke Fox of Sportsnet adds to the speculation, noting, «Dan Vladar (Flames), Jake Allen (Canadiens), Eric Comrie (Sabres), & Anton Forsberg (Senators) were amongst the goalies Treliving targeted.»

Treliving pitched a modest 6th-round pick for goalies like Jake Allen (Montreal Canadiens), Daniel Vladar (Calgary Flames), Eric Comrie (Buffalo Sabres), and Anton Forsberg (Ottawa Senators).

In the interim, Illya Samsonov finds himself in AHL limbo, working to regain composure and rediscover his game.

Samsonov has accumulated a 5-2-6 record this season, with a .862 save percentage and a 3.94 GAA.

The urgency is palpable for Treliving to address this goalie situation promptly if the Leafs aim to contend this year.
