Overall, it was a low-key deal despite Laine being such a talented player. Following his recent on and off-ice struggles, it became clear that the Habs had all of the leverage in this situation. However, General Manager Kent Hughes chose to retain all of Laine's salary. That was the main caveat to the deal, although the Canadiens have the cap space, and overall, this is just a very low-risk, high-reward investment for them.
Today, the team revealed what jersey number Laine will be wearing next season. Essentially, he will be reversing his number 29 so that he can wear the number 92. This will be a nice fresh start for Laine, who now gets to play for the most historic franchise in the history of the National Hockey League.
Laine recently came out and made some interesting comments about playing for the Montreal Canadiens. He, of course, wants to give them a Stanley Cup. As for his production, he has a very defiant goal in mind.
