Edmonton Oilers announce their decision on Philip Broberg & Dylan Holloway

Over the weekend, the Oilers made trades with the Vancouver Canucks, and the San Jose Sharks. They even got rid of Cody Ceci's contract, which led to optimism that they might retain at least one of their two young players.

However, over the past few days, it has become increasingly clear that the Oilers would rather let Broberg and Holloway walk Insiders like Frank Seravalli and Elliotte Friedman have confirmed as much. Today, fans were simply waiting on an official statement from the team. This morning, the Oilers confirmed that Broberg and Holloway are now official members of the St. Louis Blues.

It is not an ideal situation for the Oilers, however, when you are over the salary cap, things like this are bound to happen. Only time will tell what the Oilers will be able to do next in terms of free agents and trades. They have to sign Leon Draisaitl, and that is going to cost a pretty penny. The exact same thing can be said of Connor McDavid, who will get his bag next season.

After making it to the Stanley Cup Finals this past season, the Oilers will now have a long road ahead if they want to make it back. The Stanley Cup Playoffs are the most difficult in all of professional sports, and the Western Conference will not make it easy on the West Coast franchise. That said, we're sure the entire team is determined to prove people wrong and get that sixth Cup in franchise history.
