Montreal Canadiens trade Jeff Petry to his preferred team
The Montreal Canadiens acquired Jeff Petry as a part of the Erik Karlsson trade just last week. The Canadiens never intended for Petry to play in Montreal and always intended on flipping the defender to another team. Today that deal finally came together.
Today the Montreal Canadiens announced that they have traded Petry to the Detroit Red Wings. The Red Wings were always Perry's preferred destination as it allowed him to be closer to home. The deal breaks down as follows:
Trade: #GoHabsGo send Jeff Petry to Detroit #LGRW , city where his father Dan pitched 11 seasons for the @tigers.
To Detroit: Jeff Petry
To Montreal: Gustav Lindstrom, 2025 conditional 4th round pick
MTL retained 50% on Petry. Condition is later of DET or BOS pick. In the deal the Canadiens acquire a 6'2 defensive defenseman who will likely make their opening day roster. Montreal will retain a little over $2,000,000 for the next 3 years.
