Marc-Andre Fleury Shares Emotional Retirement Plans
Marc-Andre Fleury is sticking with the Minnesota Wild for another year, having just inked a new deal worth an average annual value of $2.5 million. The veteran goalie, and future Hall of Famer, isn't ready to hang up his skates just yet.
Despite the Wild missing the playoffs this season, Fleury's performance between the pipes was a bright spot. He eclipsed Patrick Roy to claim second place on the all-time goalie wins list, trailing only Martin Brodeur, who leads with 691 wins.
Turning 40 this November, Fleury recorded a 17-14-5 season, posting a .899 save percentage and a 2.98 goals against average, along with two shutouts. These numbers, some of the poorest in his 20-year career, came behind a less-than-stellar defense.
But despite his stellar career Fleury plans to retire following the 2024-2025 NHL season, hoping to close out his storied career on a high note.
«I'm not doing this again,» Fleury told reporters after practice. «No, this is it."
