In a stunning turn of events, Philadelphia Flyers head coach John Tortorella made a critical decision to pull the goalie in a tie game, unaware that the Detroit Red Wings had scored with just 3 seconds left, forcing overtime and ultimately aiding the Washington Capitals in clinching a playoff berth.

John Tortorella shares that he didn't find out about the Red Wings forcing overtime and eliminating the Flyers until AFTER he pulled the goalie thus allowing the Capitals to clinch the final playoff spot

The Capitals secured their playoff spot in a nail-biting 2-1 victory over the Flyers, with T.J. Oshie's incredible empty-net goal sealing the deal. Led by veterans like Oshie and Alex Ovechkin, the Capitals are hungry for playoff success after a one-year absence.

Despite some tense moments, goalie Charlie Lindgren's standout performance was instrumental in securing the win for the Capitals. Ovechkin also made his mark with his 31st goal of the season, edging closer to Wayne Gretzky's all-time record.

While the Flyers Samuel Ersson showcased his skills in goal before being replaced, it wasn't enough to thwart the Capitals' determined effort.

Looking ahead, the Capitals face a formidable challenge against the Presidents' Trophy-winning New York Rangers. Coach Spencer Carbery is aware of the tough road ahead but remains confident in his team's abilities to rise to the occasion.
