Insiders leak the full terms of Leon Draisaitl's Oilers extension
is in the market for a brand-new contract that will likely make him the highest-paid player in the NHL, although for the Edmonton Oilers, it makes things complicated.
Recently, the team had to let
Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway walk thanks to offer sheets from the St. Louis Blues. Meanwhile, they are still negotiating with Draisaitl, who will then be eclipsed by
Connor McDavid's contract at the end of next season.
There is lots of anxiety surrounding Draisaitl's upcoming deal. However, the Two Mutts Hockey Podcast had some interesting inside information on the Draisaitl deal. As they explain, Draisaitl will be signed for eight years for $13.5 million per year. Meanwhile, he is expected to be in Edmonton soon which means we could have a finalized deal in the coming weeks.
"This should not be a problem, this deal should get done . . . What we've been told a couple weeks ago from the sources that we spoke to, it's gonna be an 8 year deal and it's gonna be $13.5M. Leon Draisaitl's taking a discount to stay in Edmonton.
I know he's coming to Edmonton pretty quick here, if not he'll be here this week. He'll be skating with some of the guys and then the Captains skate will be pretty soon after that . . . So we'll see where that goes."
It will be interesting to see if this report comes to fruition. There is a lot riding on this for the Edmonton Oilers, and we're sure Stan Bowman and company are working tirelessly to make this all work.
