Overall, the Oilers were looking to dump Ceci's contract on someone. Presumably, this was being done in an effort to re-sign the likes of Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway who were recently hit with offer sheets. Whatever the case may be, this was a massive trade that Stan Bowman needed to make.
Emberson is a young defenseman who was supposed to be part of San Jose's future. He played 30 games last season and notched 10 points, but had flashes of brilliance. Now, he will get to play with an Oilers team that is looking to avenge their loss in the Stanley Cup Finals.
Meanwhile, Oilers fans cannot believe their good fortune here. No one really thought the team would be able to trade Ceci. Mostly, this is because the defenseman has been playing bad hockey for the last three seasons, or at least that is how the fans feel. His pairing with Darnell Nurse lacked reliability at times, and the fans were getting frustrated.
In the tweets down below, you can see that Oilers fans are heavily celebrating this trade. Overall, they believe this will go a long way in creating cap space while also improving the team.
