Patrik Laine was traded by the Columbus Blue Jackets to the Montreal Canadiens today in exchange for Jordan Harris.

The Habs will retain 100 percent of Laine's contract, and now, fans are curious to see if this trade is actually going to be worth it for the Canadiens. Laine has not been super productive over the past few years, but he does have 40-goal potential. In fact, he could even score 50 because he is that talented. However, at this stage, it remains unclear just how well Laine can perform.

Following the news of his trade, Laine held a press conference where he took questions about what went down. In this press conference, Laine stated that his main goal is to win a Stanley Cup with the Canadiens. Furthermore, he noted that he intends to get back to the 40-50 goal range that he knows he is capable of.

Only time will tell whether any of that actually happens. That said, we do know that the Habs have just gotten better. Meanwhile, the Blue Jackets have picked up a young player with a bit of potential. Overall, both teams benefit, but the Habs are definitely getting the higher ceiling out of this. Hopefully, Laine can turn the tide of his career with this fresh start.

Do you believe Laine will be a good pick up for the Montreal Canadiens? Let us know in the poll down below and stay tuned to Hockey Unplugged for the latest news and updates from around the hockey world.
