This season, the stakes have never been higher for the Detroit Red Wings to go out and make the playoffs.

Fans have been fed up with the mediocrity. This is especially true when you consider how the team used to hold the record for most playoff appearances in a row. Regardless, the team is trying to get better, especially when it comes to the goaltender position. In fact, heading into this season, things were a bit crowded for the team.

We say this because they had Ville Husso, Cam Talbot, and even Jack Campbell. Campbell is now in the NHLPA Player Assistance Program. This has left Husso and Talbot. Last night, Talbot had a 42-save shutout and as a result, the Red Wings have taken some action. Husso has been out on Waivers.

Husso is in the final year of a deal that pays him about $4.75 million per year. It seems like the Red Wings aren't super thrilled about how much they are paying him right now. They believe Talbot is the guy moving forward and when Campbell comes back, he will certainly have a spot on the roster.

Only time will tell what happens next for Husso. If he clears waivers, he will surely have to go to the AHL. This is not an ideal situation, but such is life in the NHL. It can be a brutal business and if you aren't living up to your contract, these things can happen.

Do you believe that Ville Husso will be able to find his footing again? Let us know in the poll down below and stay tuned to Hockey Unplugged for the latest news and updates from around the hockey world. We will continue to keep you informed on all of your favorite players and teams.
