However, he is currently in a bit of a contract dispute with the Boston Bruins. He is looking to be paid over $9 million per year. Meanwhile, the Bruins only have about $8.6 million in cap space, which means they will have to make a trade to afford their star goaltender.
This week, Swayman's value may have risen yet again thanks to a new goalie ranking from the NHL Network. As you can see below, the official network of the NHL has ranked Swayman as the fourth-best goalie in the league. Above him are Andrei Vasilevskiy, Connor Hellebuyck, and Igor Shesterkin.
This list just goes to show how good of a goalie Swayman really is. If he and his agents wanted to, they could use this as some sort of leveraging tool to get more money out of the Bruins. After all, if you're the Bruins franchise, you don't want to ride yourself of a top five goalie in the NHL. Needless to say, this situation may have just gone from bad to worse for the Bruins brass.
Do you believe the Boston Bruins will be able to find a solution on Swayman? Let us know in the poll down below. Additionally, stay tuned to Hockey Unplugged for the latest news and updates from around the hockey world.
