After spending a year and a half splitting time with Linus Ullmark this season, Jeremy Swayman and his camp feel that the outstanding RFA should finally be paid. Swayman and his team have an overall record of 31-15-9 between the regular season and the postseason. The fact that Swayman and his team value him similarly to Winnipeg Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck, the 2020 Vezina Trophy winner, adds even more intrigue to the situation.
Since joining the league during the 20202021 season, Swayman has had an incredible run with the Bruins; however, his success, particularly the last three seasons, may be largely attributable to Ullmark's equitable load distribution, and generally speaking, he's had a solid performance on most nights.
Given the knowledge that Swayman will probably be the guy going forward given the ongoing rumors about Ullmark's departure and the addition of Brandon Bussi to the AHL's Providence Bruins, General Manager Don Sweeney is in a strong position with excellent goaltenders at his disposal.
While it's debatable if Swayman is worth as much as Hellebuyck and whether the Bruins would pay that kind of money, it's highly likely that they will go to any lengths to keep him if doing so is important to them and they want to stay successful.
