Seth Jones trade rumors surface following run-in with Connor Bedard

Seth Jones is 29 years old and is still an effective defenseman in the NHL, despite many believing his Chicago Blackhawks contract is way too expensive.

In a recent article from NHL reporter Greg Wyshynksi, it was touted that Jones could actually be a trade target. In fact, the reporter believes it is really going to happen. Despite the contract being large, the salary cap increases have made the contract a whole lot less worrisome. Having said that, the timing of Wyshynski's report is questionable.

We say this because earlier in the week, franchise superstar Connor Bedard got into it with Jones at practice. While the Blackhawks would never trade Jones over something so inconsequential, one has to wonder if there is at least a small connection here. That said, coincidence is a word in the dictionary for a reason.

"The NHL isn't populated with 29-year-old defensemen who can skate top-pairing minutes (25:29 per game on average for Jones last season). His contract looks less elephantine with each passing season. This could be the season where Jones gets moved if the right situation presents itself to GM Kyle Davidson, who is not the GM who traded for and signed Jones to that contract."

As Wyshynski notes, trading Jones might not be easy for the Blackhawks as finding a replacement would be next to impossible. However, at this stage of the game, you really never know. No matter what, it is fun to theorize and come up with some potential trade scenarios.
