The NHL Implements New Rule Effective Immediately After Linesman Gets Injured
Following a recent incident where a linesman was injured during a game between the Winnipeg Jets and the Minnesota Wild, the NHL has introduced a new safety regulation.
The linesman suffered a skate cut in a freak accident involving a player who was perched on the boards, poised to enter the game.
To prevent such occurrences in the future, the league has announced that players will no longer be allowed to sit on the boards while waiting to join the action on the ice. Initially, teams found violating this new rule will receive a warning, but repeat offenses will result in penalties.
The NHL has justified the decision, emphasizing the risk posed to all participants when players sit on the boards.
«Effective immediately, players can't sit on boards awaiting line changes. A team will get warning first, then refs will be instructed to apply penalty that's already in rulebook. NHL feels it's not good hockey + dangerous. Linesman was cut by skate in Wild-WPG game by a Jet"
The move aims to strike a balance between the competitive aspects of the game and the overarching priority of player and official safety.
