It was a horrible hit by Pare and it ultimately has many wondering whether or not Laine will play again this season. It is another case of bad luck for a player who has already had the worst luck in his career so far. Having said that, it is a hit that has led to a debate about fighting, retaliation, and respect in the National Hockey League.
In fact, Subban took to Twitter where he went on a passionate rant about what the NHL has become over the past few years. As he explains in his video, superstars are not being respected anymore. He claims Pare knew what he was doing and that there wasn't a single fan in the arena who was there to see him play. Instead, fans pay admission to see superstars like Patrik Laine.
Subban also acknowledged that what Arber Xhekaj did wasn't much better, but with the officials not doing anything, there wasn't much else for him to do. It was an interesting acknowledgment, and it speaks to the current state of the National Hockey League. One has to wonder if things will change in the near future. Considering the fact that players are not being taught to hit properly at a young age, one can assume this will just keep happening. It's unfortunate, and the league must do something.
