Patrik Laine was recently traded from the Columbus Blue Jackets to the Montreal Canadiens in a deal that sent young defenseman Jordan Harris back the other way.

Overall, this was a massive trade for the Habs who are trying to add some offense. As it turns out, there were numerous teams trying to trade for Laine. In fact, we recently reported on how Laine rejected a trade to the Philadelphia Flyers, who were very much interested in his services.

Now, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune, the Minnesota Wild were in on Laine. However, based on a conversation with Bill Guerin, it was made clear that Laine had no interest in going there. Ultimately, Montreal seemed to be a preferred destination for him.

"Guerin said he had made progress on a deal and believed he had a chance to complete a swap, until he couldn't. When I asked him if Laine wanted to come to the Twin Cities, Guerin said. "No."

That suggests, and what I suspect, is that Laine had the Wild on a no-trade list."

Laine will now get to show what he is made of with the Montreal Canadiens. Laine hopes to become a 40-goal scorer again although there is no guarantee he will be able to make that happen. If he does, he will certainly become a fan-favorite in one hockey's most brutal markets.
