Craig Conroy, general manager of the Flames, is doing everything he can to get the team back into the hunt for a winning season, and it seems like he might be considering trading one of his forwards this summer.
David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period claims that the Flames are looking into trading for Nazem Kadri, who has a complete no-movement clause, which might make matters more difficult. Nothing major is about to happen, said Pagnotta.
Not long after Pagnotta post that on X, Darren Dreger of TSN added that interested teams have been calling the Flames regarding Nazem Kadri, but he likes Calgary and has a NMC, so hit preference would be to stay.
With five years left on his deal and a $7 million cap cost, Kadri, 33, is still under contract. For the next two seasons, he is protected by a no-movement clause; however, for the last three years of the contract, a modified no-trade clause will apply. As was previously noted, Nazem Kadri would be difficult to trade, particularly if he enjoys living in Calgary. Conroy will have a difficult time finding a landing site that the forward would accept.
This past season, the London, Ontario native made 82 appearances with the Flames, recording 75 points (29 goals, 46 assists), 43 penalty minutes, and an even rating.
As the Flames try to turn things around quickly and avoid missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs three years in a row for the first time in more than a decade, this will be an interesting situation to watch in the coming weeks.
