Nail Yakupov's NHL comeback hopes have officially been obliterated
Nail Yakupov is easily one of the biggest busts in the history of the NHL. Overall, things did not work out between him and the Edmonton Oilers, and it led to him moving to Colorado.
Once the Avalanche didn't work out, Nail Yakupov went to the KHL, where he has spent the last six seasons. Recently, we reported on how the former NHLer was actually thinking of making a comeback. Well, the latest news out of Russia suggests that this will not be happening.
As you can see in the tweet below, Yakupov has officially signed a one-year deal with the Kunlun Red Star. Now, Yakypov will be playing hockey in China.
It remains to be seen how Yakupov will fair on the Red Star, who are notoriously one of the worst teams in the KHL. If anything, this is likely a humbling blow to Yakupov, who hasn't been extremely productive overseas. Hopefully, he can find a way to turn his career around.
Do you believe that Nail Yakupov could ever wind up back in the NHL? Let us know in the poll down below. Additionally, stay tuned to Hockey Unplugged for the latest news and updates from around the hockey world.
