Johnson died as a result of his injuries from the impact, and since that time, an investigation into his death has been launched by authorities. If you remember, last year, Petgrave was arrested on November 11th, however, he was eventually released on bail. In fact, Petgrave returned to his team and even finished out the EIHL season, despite everything that happened.
Now, it is being reported by the BBC that Petgrave was granted an extension to his bail. It will extend all the way until November 11th, which is the one-year anniversary of his arrest.
It remains to be seen how the investigation will go. Overall, fans seem split on how they feel about it. Some believe it is a horrible accident while others feel like it was intentional. Ultimately, that is up to the courts to decide. Meanwhile, the AHL has instituted new rules that will force players into wearing cut-resistant neck guards this season.
