Johnny & Matthew Gaudreau receive major honor in New Jersey
Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau tragically passed away at the end of August after being struck by a drunk driver while riding their bikes near their hometown of Salem, New Jersey.
The two brothers were seen as heroes out in New Jersey. As a result, they are now being given a special honor that was announced last night prior to the game between the New Jersey Devils and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
This is an honor that really leans into the fact that the two were legends when it came to high school hockey in the area. They terrorized opposing teams and schools for years, and their opponents still remember all those incredible plays that they made. Their legacy lives on at the Prudential Center. The NJSIAA High School Hockey Championships MVP award will be named after Johnny and Matthew.
"In celebration of their legendary New Jersey youth and high school hockey careers, Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau's legacy will live on forever inside
@PruCenter and as part of the newly-created NJSIAA High School Hockey Championships MVP award named in their honor."
This is a truly incredible honor and one that is absolutely deserved. The two brothers meant so much to the game of hockey, especially in the state of New Jersey. This ensures that their legacies will love on forever.
Our heart goes out to the Gaudreau family during this incredibly difficult time. We hope the family is getting all of the support they need and deserve right now.
