Jake Guentzel to the San Jose Sharks?
One of the best free agents, Jake Guentzel, is set to open up shop on July 1st. An insider has a wild, outrageous guess as to where he will wind up. Nobody could have been able to have it on their free agent board.
I believe that most people believed Jake Guentzel would be able to sign a long-term contract with the Carolina Hurricanes after he was dealt from the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Hurricanes. It now seems likely that on July 1st, he will test the waters as a free agent.
Having said that, Sportsnet insider Jeff Marek has a wild guess as to where the prolific scorer will end up, and it's not a place anyone would have expected.
Marek predicts Guentzel to San Jose, says San Jose is going to need players to surround Celebrini and
Will Smith with.
Marek mentions that the San Jose Sharks could be a contender to land Jake Guentzel because of their need to surround top prospect, Will Smith and likely first overall pick in this year's draft
Macklin Celebrini.
The Sharks certainly would have the cap space to give Guentzel an offer he couldn't refuse and the ability to have them play with relatively skill players. I'll be at in their first seasons in the National Hockey League.
We'll have to see where this goes, but if the sharks come out of nowhere and sign, Guentzel, Don't say, Marek didn't warn you.
It would be interesting to see a player of Guentzel's calibre play with two of the most exciting young players to come out of their respective draft years.
