For young players looking to make it into the NHL, the Hlinka Gretzky Cup can prove to be a solid tournament to showcase your talents.
The tournament is U-18 and it was taking place in Edmonton throughout the past week. On Saturday night, Canada defeated Czechia by a score of 2-1 to win the championship. However, the tournament is currently catching some heat online thanks to a terrible attendance record. Below, you can see that half of the arena was completely empty.
This drew strong reactions from the replies, who noted that they didn't support the tournament because they didn't even know it was happening. Although some did chime in to say that the attendance was the way it was because they were only selling tickets to half of the arena. Either way, it seems like the tournament is catching some heat, regardless.
"Nobody knew the tourney was even happening. Poor marketing. We would have bought tickets for ourselves and then somethis town is drooling for hockey right now."
"I for one, had zero clue the tournament was on. Not a single advertisement was put out there about this."
"Zero promo. Nobody knew this tourney was going on."
