Conor McDavid's contract situation is officially a nightmare for the Oilers

Conor McDavid is easily one of the best players in the history of the NHL, and soon, he will be getting a brand-new contract.
However, first,
he must wait to see what Leon Draisaitl gets. Yesterday, we reported on how Draisaitl is set to receive a contract worth $13.5 million per year. According to Derek van Diest of NHL.com, McDavid will be making more than that. The Edmonton Oilers can sign him as of July 1st of next year, and it is going to cost a pretty penny.
As Van Diest explained, it is highly likely that McDavid is going to become the highest-paid player in the history of the NHL. That means he could be getting upwards of $15 million per year. If that is the case, then the Oilers may be in for a nightmare scenario involving the salary cap.
Regardless, GM Stan Bowman seems confident that this will get done fast. Draisaitl will be signing soon and from there, it almost seems guaranteed that McDavid will stick it out in Edmonton for the long term.
Do you believe that Conor McDavid's next contract will reach a total of $15 million AAV. Let us know in the poll down below. Additionally, stay tuned to Hockey Unplugged for the latest news and updates from around the hockey world.
