NHL Mourns the Loss of Scott Masters at Age 46

The hockey world is in mourning as news emerges of the untimely passing of Scott Masters, a respected former video coach and pro scout who served several NHL organizations over his career. Masters passed away at the young age of 46.
Career Overview and Contributions
Scott Masters began his NHL journey in 2001, working as a video coach with the St. Louis Blues, Colorado Avalanche, and Florida Panthers until 2013. In 2014, he transitioned to a pro scouting role with the Montreal Canadiens, a position he held until 2019. His extensive career also included significant contributions to college hockey as a coach and scout before joining the NHL ranks.
Reflecting on his career, Masters recently expressed gratitude towards St. Louis Blues General Manager and President of Hockey Operations Doug Armstrong, crediting him with providing pivotal opportunities.
"He believed in pro scouts in the field, he believed in amateur scouts in the field and he also believed in analytics. Analytics were becoming big at that time and he also loved scouting video for pros and trades and free agency. He gave me that opportunity to do some of that scouting via video on the pro level and with technology I could do so much more."

Tribute and Legacy
The news of Masters' passing has been met with sorrow across the NHL community. A tweet from Adrian Dater, a prominent hockey journalist, captures the sentiment:
"RIP to former Avs video coach Scott Masters. Scott also worked in the Florida, St. Louis and Montreal organizations."
Masters' dedication to the game and his innovative approach to scouting and video analysis left a lasting impact on the teams he worked with and the colleagues who knew him. His contributions helped shape the modern approach to scouting and analytics in hockey, and he was widely respected for his work ethic and expertise.
Condolences and Remembering Scott Masters
The cause of Scott Masters' death has not been disclosed. As the hockey community reflects on his contributions and mourns his loss, heartfelt condolences are extended to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his professional and personal life. Masters' legacy in hockey, particularly in the realms of video coaching and pro scouting, will be remembered and honored by those who had the privilege to work alongside him and learn from his insights.
