Whether it's Mitch Marner refusing to move his no trade clause or the fact that other clubs have contacted to inquire about the Maple Leaf star's availability, there have been a lot of rumors around him and the Toronto Maple Leafs this off-season. Up until today, the Toronto Maple Leafs front office has been quite silent.
Brad Treliving has disclosed whether or not he would be open to trading Marner if doing so would benefit the organization, according to Pierre LeBrun.
Treliving has observed that although though Mitch Marner has a lot of power over the no-trade clause in question, they won't make a deal just for the purpose of making one. Instead, they would be open to moving Marner if the fit was perfect. He has also mentioned that the deal needs to make sense and improve the Leafs as a whole.
It appears that if anything is going to get done, this won't likely be resolved in the off-season but rather may need to wait until the regular season and the following off-season before Marner's free agency.
Although he appears disengaged and uninterested, the Maple Leafs have a valid complaint about murder's play in recent years. However, murder is still a player who can score nearly 100 points a season, and the team that is going to trade away a Superstar needs to get a good return on investment.
