Nottingham Panthers star and former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Adam Johnson was killed last year during an EIHL game in England after Matt Petgrave hit him in the neck with his skate.

It was a gruesome scene that led to the passing of a beloved player. Since Johnson's passing, numerous leagues around the world have tried to change the way players do things. They have ushered in various rules regarding neck protection and non-cut guards.

As for Johnson, he has received a plethora of tributes from the Panthers. His number 47 was retired by the team and now, his number is on the ice. Monday will mark the one-year anniversary of his passing. As a result, the Panthers held a 47-second moment of silence prior to their game today.

This was a great way to pay homage to Johnson. Numerous teams across the EIHL are actually doing the same thing, which is pretty cool to watch transpire. At the end of the day, his passing had a huge impact on the league and all of its players. It is clear that he had a lot of respect.

We hope that this year, the EIHL and leagues across the world are able to go on without such incidents. What happened to Johnson was incredibly tough to watch. We want the players to be safe, whenever they get onto the ice.
