The Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks are divisional rivals that don't like each other. It doesn't matter how far apart the teams are in the standings they always play each other tough. Last night's preseason game was no exception.
With less then one minute remaining in the game, the Canucks led 5-2, when Oilers' defender Vincent Desharnais took an opportunity to take a free shot at a Canucks player.
Desharnais slowly skated towards Anthony Beauvillier and hits him with a cross check to the face. Fans were upset that the much larger Desharnais would take this type of liberties with a much smaller opponent in this meaningless game.
6-foot-6 Vincent Desharnais going after 5-foot-11 Anthony Beauvillier and getting his stick up on Beauvillier is chicken shit stuff. He'll get his. #Canucks
After the play, both Desharnais and Adam Erne were ejected for their actions on the play. It is possible that Desharnais will hear from NHL Player Safety for this cross check, but given George Parros' performance this preseason, I wouldn't count on it.
