Before the 2023-24 season began, the Toronto Maple Leafs guaranteed the team would have a new goals songs, replacing 'You Make My Dreams Come True' by Hall & Oates, which had been used for the last 5 seasons. However, the team has been forced to switch things up rather quickly after complaints about the new one.

While the team said several tracks would be used for the new goal song, the main one was intended to be "Pursuit of Happiness" by Kid Cudi. Apparently no one bothered to check the lyrics beforehand.

"Don't expect to hear 'Pursuit of Happiness' as the goal song for #LeafsForever games anymore. Told they won't be using it any longer this season.

Heard the Leafs received some complaints about the song's message and/or lyrics." - Nick Alberga

If you've never bothered to read the lyrics of "Pursuit of Happiness," the song references drug use and drunk driving.

"Crush a bit, little bit, Roll it up, take a hit, Feeling lit, feeling right, Two AM, summer night, I don't care, Hand on the wheel, Driving drunk I'm doing my thang."- Pursuit of Happiness by Kid Cudi

Going forward, the team has added "Dup, Dup" to it's goal song rotation as a replacement for Pursuit of Happiness. The team will also use at least six other tracks as goal songs.
