Top prospect being flown to North America for second opinion on mystery injury
Injuries are part of the game of hockey and sometimes those injuries can cause major issues. That is the case for the Minnesota Wild and one of their top draft picks. The Wild are so concerned about Liam Ohgren that the team has brought the young forward to North America so team doctors can check on him.
Ohgren was selected 19th overall by the Wild in 2022. The Wild and Ohgren decided that it was best for Ohgren to remain in Sweden for the 2023-24 season. However, Ohgren was limited and barely played during the preseason and hasn't played in any of the regular season games for Farjestads so far this year. Now comes word that he's on his way to the United States.
"He is their player and they want to check on him, really nothing more strange than that," said Mattias Hell who is responsible for Färjestad's medical team.
"They want a 'second opinion', which is not surprising since it is their player."
Oddly, no one is saying what is wrong with Ohgren nor when he might be able to return. However, the team made it clear he will be out a while.
Before being drafted, Ohgren was noted as a fast skater who has no issue making plays on the fly. He was also called very coachable and possible team captain material.
