Pittsburgh Hockey minority owner Ron Burkle's name has surfaced in recently unsealed court documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, a deceased sex offender, as reported by The Athletic. The documents, part of a defamation lawsuit against Ghislaine Maxwell by Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre, mention Burkle's knowledge of Epstein's sexual trafficking conduct. Notably, Burkle hasn't faced charges in connection with the Epstein case.

Epstein's black book and private log contained Burkle's name, which became public knowledge after Epstein's 2008 conviction. Burkle, who shares a stake in the Penguins, had taken humanitarian trips to Africa on Epstein's private jet with former President Bill Clinton. Despite being a key Democratic fundraiser during Clinton's presidency, Burkle later described Epstein as "creepy" after their journey.

With a reported net worth of $3 billion, Burkle's business ventures span groceries, including A&P and Whole Foods Market. He was the majority co-owner of the Penguins with Mario Lemieux until December 2021, when Fenway Sports Group acquired the team for $950 million.

The Athletic notes that Burkle hasn't been publicly seen around the Penguins since the sale's approval by the NHL Board of Governors. Although absent from public events, he attended Penguins games in Los Angeles post-sale. Despite attempts to seek comment from Burkle through The Yucaipa Companies, his investment firm, and the Penguins declining to comment, there has been no response.
