Ryan Ellis was revered as one of the league's best defenders, he was considered a solid all around player that could defend well in his own end and contribute offensively as well. Unfortunately injuries were always an issue that have prevented him from playing at an elite level.

According to Keith Jones, President of Hockey Operations for the Philadelphia Flyers, Ellis has likely played his final game in the National Hockey League without even knowing.
#Flyers President of Hockey Operations Keith Jones told reporters today that D Ryan Ellis has a torn psoas muscle in his back, and has likely played his last NHL game.

Jones when asked about a surgical option for Ellis:

"I think that he's exhausting everything that he can in order to play, like we all do. You never want to have the void of not doing something that you'd love to do. He did it very effectively when he played so it's got to be really difficult."

Ellis, 32, hasn't played since November of 2021 due to a torn psoas muscle in his back. In 566 career games with the Nashville Predators and Flyers. He collected 275 points including 76 goals and adding 199 assists.
This is a disappointing end to such a bright career.
