The NHL's waiver activity was surpringly busy this Thursday afternoon, with a total of three players being waived by their respective teams.
According to NHL Insider Chris Johnston,
Jansen Harkins of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Radek Simek of the San Jose Sharks, and Zach MacEwan of the Ottawa Senators were placed on waivers this afternoon.
"Placed on NHL waivers: Jansen Harkins (PIT),
Zack MacEwen (OTT) and Radim Simek (SJ)." Johnston said.
Harkins, 26 years old, was claimed off waivers 17 days ago by the Penguins from the Winnipeg Jets and has gone on to appear in four games for Pittsburgh this season, but did not record any points in those games.
Simek, 31 years old, has spent parts of five seasons in the NHL with the San Jose Sharks, but has still yet to earn a roster spot on the rebuilding team.
MacEwan, 27, signed with Ottawa this summer and has one assist in two games for the Senators so far this season.
If any of the players on Thursday's waiver wire clear on Friday, they'll be assigned to their original team's AHL affiliate.
