Patrice Bergeron announces his retirement
After the Boston Bruins were limited in the first round by the Florida Panthers. Many wondered if Patrice Bergeron's career was over. Before leaving the ice, he insisted on giving each teammate a hug. The visual made everyone assume his career was over.
Despite the emotional moment, Bergeron took time this summer to sit down and contemplate his future. Today Bergeron confirmed however that his career was officially over. Announcing via the Bruins Twitter page that he had made the decision to call it a career.
For the last 20 years I have been able to live my dream every day. I have had the honor of playing in front of the best fans in the world wearing the Bruins uniform and representing my country at the highest levels of international play. I have given the game everything that I have physically and emotionally, and the game has given me back more than I could have ever imagined.
It is with a full heart and a lot of gratitude that today I am announcing my retirement as a professional hockey player.
Bergeron retires as one of the greatest defensive forwards to ever play the game. His record 6 Selke Trophies is a mark that will likely never be reached again. Congrats Patrice.
