Tonight Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin has achieved yet another incredible feat against the Edmonton Oilers and Connor McDavid.
With Ovechkin on the march toward Wayne Gretzky's NHL goal record today's game against the Edmonton Oilers provided a prime chance for him to have a great day.
The Capitals came out flying during the game and dominated the Oilers from start to finish in the decisive win Ovechkin tallied a hat trick.
The hat trick put Ovechkin just 13 goals away from Gretzky's elusive record but also led Ovi to break a whole new milestone in the process as well.
Alex Ovechkin Hits Another Impressive Milestone Against the Edmonton Oilers
Ovechkin is used to cracking different milestones and records that place him in fantastic company alongside Hall of Fame level players.
Today Ovechkin not only set a milestone but he accomplished something that no other player in the history of the NHL has done.
During the game Ovechkin not only had a hat trick but he also tallied his 200th goal of the 2020s becoming the first player in NHL history to reach that plateau in three different decades.
This milestone from Ovechkin just further cements his place as the greatest goal scorer in NHL history as he continues to climb toward the overall goals record in the coming weeks and months.
As the season continues Ovechkin is just 13 goals away from the record and has 25 more games this season to get those goals.
With the torrid pace he has been on when healthy this season it is incredibly likely that we see Ovechkin break Gretzky's record before the 2024-25 NHL season comes to a close.
