NHL alumni announces the death of former Buffalo Sabres forward
Making it to the NHL is the most difficult thing. Any hockey player can accomplish. But once you've done it no one can ever take it away. Despite only playing 22 games, Joe Kowal achieved that dream with the Buffalo Sabres.
Today though the NHL Alumni Twitter page released the sad news that Joe Kowal passed away. Kowal was just 67-years-old.
Kowal was selected in the 2nd round by the Buffalo Sabres, 33rd overall in the 1970 NHL Draft. Kowal would play 2 seasons for the Sabres before leaving the NHL. Kowal finished his career playing four more seasons in the AHL.
The NHL Alumni Association is saddened to learn that Joe Kowal has passed away at the age of 67.
Joe was drafted to the @BuffaloSabres in the 1976 @NHL Draft. He played in 22 games for the Sabres, scoring 5 points over 2 seasons.
