NHL Star deletes his social media after being harassed by hundreds of fans
Mikhail Sergachev, defenseman for the Tampa Bay Lightning, made the decision to deactivate his Instagram account after facing harassment from fans critiquing his performance.
The incident follows Sergachev's notable trade from the Montreal Canadiens to the Lightning in 2017 for forward Jonathan Drouin. Over the past two seasons, the Lightning increased Sergachev's responsibilities, leading to career milestones such as double-digit goals in 2019-20 and an NHL career-high average of 20:22 minutes of ice time.
The decision to step away from social media sheds light on the impact of fan interactions on players' well-being, emphasizing the need for respectful engagement and recognizing the human side of professional athletes.
