NHL DoPS Has Released The Punishment for Brendan Smith's Two Handed Slash
The NHL Department of Player Safety has just handed down a two-game suspension to Brendan Smith of the New Jersey Devils for a two-handed slash against Travis Konecny from the Philadelphia Flyers.
In the official announcement, it was straightforward:
"New Jersey's Brendan Smith has been suspended for two games for slashing Philadelphia's Travis Konecny."
For those who missed the incident, things got a bit heated between the Devils and the Flyers in their recent matchup. In the closing moments of the game, right after a whistle and during a routine change, Travis Konecny decided to give Brendan Smith a little nudge with his stick. Smith, not taking it lightly, responded with a hefty two-handed swing of his own.
The clash between the two players led to the NHL's Player Safety team taking action with this suspension.
