At the core of everything hockey is a business that requires difficult decisions. Every decision that a team makes has far reaching impacts both personally and professionally. Sometimes doing the right thing for your team, means a difficult decision for a person.
This summer the Kraken and General Manager, Ron Francis decided they were going to leave Geekie unqualified. This allowed Geekie to become an unrestricted free agent, free to sign wherever he wants. Throughout that process though, Francis apparently didn't feel it was important to inform Geekie of his decision.
Having a player find out they're a free agent via Twitter isn't exactly the ringing endorsement that an expansion franchise wants. After being unqualified, Geekie was able to secure a 2 year deal worth $4,000,000 with the Boston Bruins, which will give him a fresh start.
