Morgan Geekie admits the Seattle Kraken didn't give him the courtesy of letting him know he was being released
At the core of everything hockey is a business that requires difficult decisions. Every decision that a team makes has far reaching impacts both personally and professionally. Sometimes doing the right thing for your team, means a difficult decision for a person.
Most GMs always try to do the right thing and remain professional throughout the process. Unfortunately for
Morgan Geekie formerly of the Seattle Kraken, he wasn't given that sort of treatment.
This summer the Kraken and General Manager, Ron Francis decided they were going to leave Geekie unqualified. This allowed Geekie to become an unrestricted free agent, free to sign wherever he wants. Throughout that process though, Francis apparently didn't feel it was important to inform Geekie of his decision.
Instead Geekie shared that he found out in one of the worst ways possible.
Morgan Geekie says that he found out on Twitter that the Kraken had let him walk. Sheeeeeesh.
Having a player find out they're a free agent via Twitter isn't exactly the ringing endorsement that an expansion franchise wants. After being unqualified, Geekie was able to secure a 2 year deal worth $4,000,000 with the Boston Bruins, which will give him a fresh start.
Last season out up 9 goals and 19 assists in 69 games.
