Leading up to the 2022 NHL Entry Draft many hockey minds had Shane Wright penciled in to go 1st overall, but things didn't go this way with Wright falling all the way to 4th for the Seattle Kraken scoop up.

Last season he spent time in the OHL, NHL, and AHL. too much movement for a young player trying to develop his game. Wright's path to the NHL continues to be rocky, Seattle have sent the center to their AHL affiliate Coachella Valley Firebirds.
With Gary Bettman granting Wright an exemption from the NHL/CHL agreement that opened the door for him to be sent down to the AHL.
#SEAKraken have sent down F Shane Wright to Coachella Valley (AHL).

The 19 year old only appeared in 2 games with the Kraken last season, scoring 1 goal and 2 points. He struggled to earn the trust of head coach Dave Hakstol averaging only 8:29. He wasn't able to stand out in the three preseason games this year recording just one assist.
Wright was eligible to be returned to the OHL but general manager Ron Francis knew his prospect was too skilled for another season in junior. Wright is ready for pro hockey just not the NHL at this time.
