Former 1st round pick claimed by Western Conference team while 23 more placed on waivers
The 2023-24 NHL season is set to begin on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. ET when the Tampa Bay Lightning take on the Nashville Predators. Half an hour before puck drop, all 32 teams are required by the league to submit their official opening night rosters.
In order to get their current rosters down to size for opening night, several teams have begun to use the waiver wire to assign players to their respective American Hockey League affiliate.
Yesterday 42 players were placed on the waiver wire and according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Vegas Golden Knights have claimed 2018 first round pick
Grigori Denisenko from the Florida Panthers.
On Saturday, according to TSN's Chris Johnston, a total of 23 players have been placed on the waiver wire. Let's take a full list of players who are available to be claimed on Sunday.
As is always the case from the opening of the waiver wire until the end of October, the order of teams that can place a claim is based off of last season's standings in reverse. The Anaheim Ducks get the first crack at placing a claim on any of the players above, followed by the Columbus Blue Jackets and Chicago Blackhawks.
If any of the players above go unclaimed on Sunday afternoon, they'll be assigned to their respective teams American Hockey League affiliate.
