The business side of the National Hockey League (NHL) is thriving, with franchise values on the rise and talk of potential expansion at a substantial cost. However, a notable issue arises: while the league prospers, players aren't reaping the benefits of expansion money, as the salary cap remains largely stagnant.

In a candid interview with insider Frank Seravalli, Marty Walsh, the Executive Director of the National Hockey League Players Association, made it clear that if the NHL decides to expand, he intends to advocate for the players to get a share of that financial growth.

#NHL franchise values have skyrocketed. The league will consider expansion in the near future - at a hefty fee. Players see none of that money. And earnings have remained flat.
#NHLPA's Marty Walsh: I'm going to ask for some of that.

Walsh underscores the players' significant role in driving fan engagement, from attending games to purchasing jerseys. However, when it comes to negotiating aspects like a new collective bargaining agreement, financial constraints suddenly arise. Walsh contends that this lack of fairness to the players needs to change, especially considering the league's substantial profits.

While Walsh is positioned to challenge the league for an increase in player earnings, the prospect of another lockout looms when the current collective bargaining agreement expires. Despite this, Walsh's advocacy for players' financial interests brings a refreshing perspective to the ongoing dialogue between the NHL and its players.
