Gary Bettman and the NHL may lose another major sponsor
In the summer of 2022, Gary Bettman and the NHL announced they'd terminated their agreement with Gatorade and replaced them as the league's official drink sponsor. Instead the league decide to sign a deal with Biosteel to become the league's new partner. Today that deal appears to have Gary Bettman and the NHL may lose another major sponsor up in the NHL's face.
Today NHL Agent, Allan Walsh released the following new information that Biosteel parent company officially filed for bankruptcy protection.
Sports drink company BioSteel files for bankruptcy protection in the U.S. and Canada.
While the filing of doesn't ensure the company will close it will definitely mean major changes to their spending. In Q1 of 2023 Biosteel reportedly sold over 30 million dollars in product, but spent over 40 million in corresponding marketing. This included nearly $12,000,000 to the NHL. This means that every single product that was being sold, was sold at a loss.
Biosteel joins Bally Sports as key NHL partners who have filed for bankruptcy protection in 2023 as the list of Bettman's failures grows longer.
