Formers Leafs Legend Making A Comeback To The NHL
Leafs icon Mats Sundin, absent from the hockey scene for years, may stage a comeback in a special role with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Sundin, a contender for the greatest Maple Leaf, boasts all-time records with 420 goals and 987 points. Captain for 10 of his 13 seasons, he left in 2007, briefly playing in Vancouver and later serving as a consultant for Team Sweden.
Amid the Global Series in Sweden, signs suggest Sundin's return to the Leafs. A dinner with Shanahan, Treliving, Keefe, and players, including Nylander, hints at a special role. Keefe notes Sundin's Maple Leafs pride and love for the game.
"He's a proud Maple Leaf, first of all. You can see that. But also, he just loves the game, and I think he just enjoys being around everyone and telling the stories," - Sheldon Keefe
Joining other NHL legends in advisory roles, Sundin might bring his wealth of experience back to Toronto, fostering a positive team culture. Whether as a regional scout or assistant to GM Treliving, Sundin's potential return adds an exciting dimension to the Leafs organization.
