Corey Perry Set To Make Official NHL Return In Just Under Two Weeks
Experienced forward Corey Perry might be eyeing a swift return to the NHL after parting ways with the Chicago Blackhawks in November. While the details surrounding his departure are unclear, interest from teams in acquiring his seasoned skills remains evident.
NHL insider Mike Johnson shared his insights on the Got Yer Back podcast, anticipating multiple offers for Perry and the likelihood of him back in the NHL within the next 10 days. Another insider, Pierre LeBrun, echoed this sentiment, expressing definite interest and predicting Perry's signing with a team before March 8th.
LeBrun acknowledged the ongoing investigation into the incident, recognizing potential challenges in uncovering the full story due to privacy concerns. However, he emphasized that teams are carefully weighing their options.
Addressing concerns about potential media backlash, Johnson played down the idea, suggesting that teams like the Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, or Vancouver Canucks would likely not hesitate to extend a contract to Perry.
It's tricky, you might have to take a leap of faith and trust that there's nothing else without actually knowing. But I still think, from what we know about sports, he will be in the NHL.
At 38 years old, Perry recently met with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, who granted him permission to sign with any team. Despite the termination of his contract with the Blackhawks, Perry hadn't been officially banned from participating. His on-ice performance with the Blackhawks featured four goals and nine points in 16 games, adding to his remarkable 19-year career that includes 892 points in 1273 games and three Stanley Cup finals appearances.
