BREAKING: Player Involved in 2018 WJC Scandal Faces Additional Criminal Charges
A recent report has confirmed that one of the five players officially charged in connection to the 2018 Canadian World Juniors scandal is now facing an additional charge.
Today, a detailed announcement outlining the charges each player is facing has been released. Carter Hart, Alex Formenton, Cal Foote, and Dillon Dube are all facing the same charge, but Michael McLeod is now dealing with an additional charge on top of sharing the primary charge with the others.
New: Court documents obtained by @TSN_Sports and @CTVNationalNews confirm Dillon Dube, Alex Formenton, Carter Hart, Michael McLeod and Cal Foote have all been charged with s***** a******.
"Dillon Dube on or about the 19th day of June in the year 2018 at the City of London in the Southwest Region did commit a s***** a****** on E.M., contrary to Section 271 of the Criminal Code of Canada."
The document repeats the same allegation against each of the other four players and says McLeod is also facing an additional charge of s***** a****** for "being a party to the offence."
All of the players have said they will plead not guilty and the allegations against them have not been tested in court.
The players were arrested on Jan. 26 and their next appearance date is Feb. 5, according to the documents.«
The additional charge essentially implies that McLeod is accused of being present during the incident, being aware it was happening, but not directly involved in the act itself. Currently, it is unclear why McLeod is the only one facing this additional charge.
As more details emerge about these charges and the reasons behind McLeod's extra charge, we will keep you informed.
